Somewhere over the hills tonight the city lights are shining. I love them, but it’s good to get away from time to time. But you won’t have to tie me down when she sings her siren song. Just give me the chance and I’ll be gone.
If there’s anything in this world that takes me back to the time when joy flowed like water and went to my head like wine, it’s the sweet smell of honeysuckle blowing on the wind and the sunlight on the water on my skin. But somewhere out over the water a bluegrass band is playing. I hear the sweet cry of the fiddle in the air. It nearly brings me to my knees. A warm honeysuckle breeze speaks of starlight and summer nights and days when you were here. |
Well I’ve been down before and I’ll be down again - too far gone to care, far too weak to stand. But if I had a dollar for every time I called your name, still I could always find another bill I couldn’t pay.
Somewhere over the hills tonight the city lights are shining. Crowds of people come and go beneath the glow of neon signs. But here beside this lake I make a pot of coffee on the fire and sit and rest my weary bones awhile. |
